Let Me Not Forget Love’s Sweet Embrace
It has been awhile since I’ve published, and even longer since I’ve written a poem. I won’t go into a long backstory with it, but just that the experience of writing this flight of fancy was quite enjoyable.
The opening quite literally popped into my head one morning, and I was unable to let it go, so I sat down and over the next hour or so composed this piece. By no means is it some classic nor spectacle of poetry, but rather a beautiful and unexpected reminder that I can occasionally write something that I am happy with. After sitting and letting the afterglow pass, I spent another hour editing and then several days contemplating if I wanted to share it…
Let me not forget love’s sweet embrace
Despite the years without its taste
I spend my time among the ruins
Immobile as the storms keep brewing
Lost to the world in mind’s bitter thought
My prayers feel tossed and all for naught
Yet now and again love’s light shines through
Life’s simple pleasures and I’m born anew
Be it by the grace of gods
Or brain chemistry that clears this fog
I celebrate this brief respite
Keeping hold of this grace filled light
And when this light no longer shines upon my face
Please dear God, let me not forget love’s sweet embrace
May you all have a pleasant evening.
